Ghost Tour

Last Saturday night we went on a ghost walking tour with our friends Suzette, Taylor, Lisa, and Cierra. We started out at St Paul's Cathedral. Our guide told us about the construction of the cathedral and also told us about some of the ghostly appearances there.

Our guide pointed out this watch house built by a graveyard. He explained that it was to prevent people from digging up bodies and selling them to the medical schools for cadavers.

Some of my favourite ghost stories from our tour were ones involving St Bart's Hospital. One story was about the founder of the hospital who has been seen walking on the ground floor of the hospital. Over the years the hospital has sunk so the ghost's head was seen on one floor and his body on the floor beneath.

He also told us about a nurse who went into a storage cupboard to get some medicine and saw another nurse wearing a cap in the area. She left and then mentioned to the head nurse about the woman she saw. The head nurse told her that she is the ghost of a nurse who gave a patient the wrong medicine and now stays in the medicine cupboard trying to find the correct medicine for her patient that died. Below is a photo of the shrapnel damage of St Bart's Hospotal from a zeppelin bomb in World War I.

One common item you see on old buildings around London is a pineapple (see the photo below). Pineapples have been seen historically as a sign of friendship and hospitality.

On our tour we also walked by the Stationer's Hall where booksellers and authors were required by law to register the books they published. Our guide told us that one man didn't register the books he wrote. After he was found guilty he was drawn and quartered. To me the punishment didn't seem to fit the crime!

Below is a photo of our walking tour group (minus Suzette who was taking the photo).

After our walking tour we headed to STAX diner for dessert.

STAX sells your typical Americana food like burgers and fries. But they are best known for their Duffin Sundae. A duffin is part doughnut part muffin and is coated with cinnamon and sugar. This sundae was amazing! I will definitely be back for another.

We also tried the chips which tasted like they had rosemary on them. They were also really good.

Warren got a cookies and cream milkshake instead of the Duffin Sundae. I think he missed out but he still thought his milkshake was pretty good.
