Utrecht

We spent all day Saturday in Utrecht. The canals are different in Utrecht than in Amsterdam because there are loading areas right off the canal. In Amsterdam there are hooks at the top of buildings to hoist packages and goods up to any floor. In the photos below you can see the little doors at the bottom of each building where goods were historically delivered.

The tall tower in the middle of the photo below is de Dom. It is the main church tower in Utrecht. The middle section of the church blew down several centuries ago.

We took loads of photos of the church courtyard. Everything was still very green even though it is November. Love the mild winters and everlasting autumn!

The inside of the remaining church building was also very beautiful.

I love the tulip markets which also last year round thanks to the mild climate and hot houses where they grow through the winter. Flowers are also inexpensive to purchase, which is lovely.

We ate lunch at this roti shop in Utrecht. They make a roti wrap which is filled with a meat curry, potatoes, and green beans wrapped up in a flat bread. It was amazing!

Here are some of the options for what you can put in your roti wrap (except the noodles, those are separate).

Here I am with my roti wrap. It was delicious!

And on to the best part of the day…dessert. These macaroons were incredible! One was a plain coconut macaroon and the other had white chocolate inside. The white chocolate one was my favorite. We got these at PieMinister which I just found out has two locations in London. I will be searching them out for another white chocolate coconut macaroon.
